India Journey Report, Part 2

“…I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18b

Jesus spoke these words to Peter over 2000 years ago, knowing the kind of persecution that His church would face. It seems that throughout history, any time the enemy would seek to crush the church, the Lord responds with a cosmic “Oh yeah!?” (see Psalm 2:2-4).

The church in India is facing just such a time.  While persecution against the church is on the rise, the gospel is spreading at an incredible rate.  This morning I learned that in the last month, in one region alone, 15,000 people have responded to the gospel, been baptized and are now in a house church.  These are indeed exciting times, and we thank our Father in heaven that we get to be a part of it.

Yesterday marked the first official day of our Journey of Compassion in India.  A team of people from around the world have gathered to partner with our brothers and sisters in India to bring practical and supernatural expressions of the Kingdom of God to some of the nation’s most vulnerable people.  The team will be sending regular reports, so be sure to check in with us throughout the next two weeks, and let’s see what the Lord will do!

DAY ONE

The first part of today was spent in orientation, where the presence of the Lord was palpable.  Filled with the Spirit and raring to go, our team spent the afternoon in a beggars colony.  They were able to provide much needed medicine and care for 133 people in a three hour period.

Meanwhile a team walked the streets, where a crowd quickly gathered to see the foreigners.  “Who needs healing?” seemed the natural place to start.  Soon the people broke out in spontaneous applause as they witnessed the healing power of Jesus.  This of course led to more people coming out of their homes (which can only be described as ‘hovels’) to see what all the commotion was about.

As a result of this one afternoon outing, many have come to Christ.  Our partners are right now working to put a house church in this community in order to disciple these precious new believers.  Praise God!
